The design of the M&E services for the building was particularly challenging. With a significant amount of ductwork in the ceiling void, a result of the building’s mechanical ventilation and a desire to maximise ceiling heights to give a good perspective to the large open-plan spaces.
Space heating for the building is provided by a series of air source heat pumps, which serve under floor heating throughout the building. Stale air within the building is drawn back through a heat recovery ventilation plant, which transfers heat to the incoming fresh air; thus reducing energy use and running costs. Additionally, solar thermal panelling generates hot water to serve the building’s various facilities, including kitchen, café and toilet facilities.
